Departments

Write Start Learning Center has 6 main departments that are designed to follow your child’s growth and accommodate their special needs throughout their transition from baby to school age. We have developed set classroom limits based upon several factors including classroom size, Standards set forth by the National Accreditation Commission for Early Care and Education Program (NAC), The Pinellas County Licensing Board (PCLB), and other State regulations.

Infants

Your child is considered an infant if they are 2 months to 12 months. There is a 3 to 1 ratio of infants to teachers in these classrooms. We provide a loving environment, always encouraging healthy habits, which, developed at an early age, tend to last a lifetime. Social and emotional needs are met promptly and in a loving way. Your child will learn about the world around him/her, with soft voices, soothing sounds and gentle touches. Toys with interesting patterns, colors and textures are provided to stimulate the senses

1-year olds

These classrooms are for children 12-months to 24-months. There is a 5 to 1 ratio of children to teachers. At Write Start, we provide a safe place to promote exploration, movement, curiosity, persistence and creativity. These are ways in which one year olds gain knowledge and skills. Teachers talk to children continuously throughout the day. We believe that every experience and interaction has an impact on development in early childhood.

2-year olds

The two-year old classroom is for children aged 24 to 36 months. There is a 10 to 1 ratio of students to teachers. Notice that we are slowly starting to integrate them into larger social settings, and acclimating them to small groups.

3 year olds

These classrooms are for children aged 36 to 48 months. Ideally, your child should be potty trained, but we do provide a changing table, in case there are “accidents.” Social interaction is critical during this developmental stage, and there is a 15 to 1 ratio of students to teachers.

4 -5 year olds

Once your child reaches four years old, they will enter our Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten or VPK program. There are two areas of this program, the free program, which is state funded and runs from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM or the wrap around program which is all day. For the state funded VPK, there is a 10 to 1 ratio of students to children. These programs are designed to prepare your child for their upcoming entrance into elementary school, with social interaction, listening skills, and acceptable behavior the primary focus.

Before and After School Care

Finally, once your child enters K-5, we offer Before and After School care, or as we like to call them, Campers. This is for ages 6-12. We provide transportation to and from their elementary school, and provide care for them during their elementary school’s “In Service” days. We have two teachers for every 30 children, and we help the students with their homework, and projects they may have from their elementary school.
